Congress Certifies the 2024 Election

January 6, 2025

Washington, DC – Today, Congress certified Donald J. Trump as President and JD Vance as Vice President of the United States, fulfilling the clear mandate from nearly 80 million Americans who placed their trust in their leadership. This moment marks a renewed opportunity to deliver on the principles that guided their choice and the promise of a government that puts its citizens first.

“With President Trump at the helm, I am optimistic about the future of our nation,” Rep. Hageman stated. “His unwavering commitment to restoring American greatness has inspired millions, and I am confident that together, we can reverse the damage done by the Biden-Harris Administration and achieve remarkable progress. Now more than ever, Congress must work alongside the President to pass the Republican agenda that reflects the will of the people. I am eager to collaborate with my colleagues in Congress and the executive branch to prioritize sound legislation. From securing our borders and unleashing energy independence to supporting small businesses and reducing federal overreach, we have a chance to create lasting positive change. Today, we honor the voices of Americans across this nation and set our country on a path to greater strength and unity.”

Background:
The certification process is Constitutionally required and codified into federal law. Following the Electoral College's December vote, Congress meets in a joint session to count and certify the electoral votes. The Vice President presides, and the electoral certificates from each state are read aloud and recorded. When the election is certified, the session concludes with the formal declaration of the President-elect and Vice President-elect.
