Hageman Applauds the Public Service Commission’s Decision on the Rocky Mountain Power Rate Hike

December 8, 2023

Washington, DC – The Wyoming Public Service Commission (WPSC) has made the decision to cut Rocky Mountain Power’s (RMP) 22% proposed rate hike to 8.3% (A second, almost 8% hike has yet to be addressed), with the increase impacting nearly 150,000 customers.

Following the decision by WPSC, Rep. Hageman stated “We have all heard the phrase, ‘go woke, go broke’ – unfortunately for Wyoming ratepayers, Rocky Mountain Power’s woke attempt to invest in unreliable green energy means that power bills will be going up. I applaud the WPSC for recognizing that the original rate increase proposal of 22% was not supported by the on-the-ground situation, and their decision to cut the increase by nearly two-thirds. Hopefully, RMP and other power providers will learn from this and focus on increasing fossil fuel production and use.”

Similar rate hikes have been instituted across the country; Detroit 6.4%, San Antonio 4.5%, Austin 5%, Cleveland 16.8% - the list goes on and in each instance the reasons cited for the increases are for investments in “renewables.”  According to Hageman, “we need to be investing in reliable and affordable energy, not implementing policies that will result in wide-spread energy poverty.”
