Hageman Votes to Protecting Hunting Heritage and Education

September 27, 2023

Washington, DC – Congresswoman Harriet Hageman voted to pass the Protecting Hunting Heritage and Education Act, a bipartisan bill that would amend the Elementary and Secondary Education Act of 1965 (ESEA) to ensure that the prohibition of use of federal education funds for certain weapons does not apply to the use of such weapons in extracurricular programs such as archery, hunting, other shooting sports, or culinary arts. This legislation was in response to the Biden administration blocking funding for these programs.

Rep. Hageman stated, “Our elementary and secondary schools teach millions of children across America how to responsibly handle firearms, safely hunt, and have respect for our lands. These programs have been successful for decades – yet the Biden administration, in their eagerness to eliminate every aspect of our 2nd Amendment Constitutional rights, chose to strip funding for these programs from our schools. Fortunately, in a bipartisan vote of 424-1, the House of Representatives sent a clear message to Joe Biden that our Constitutional rights matter, and providing proper education on hunting, archery, and shooting sports benefits all of us.”
