Harriet Hageman Applauds Wyoming’s Leading Role in Uranium Industry

November 30, 2023

Washington, DC – Today, Rep. Harriet Hageman responded to the announcement of a memorandum of understanding (MOU) that will result in extensive investment in Wyoming’s uranium industry. The agreement will result in increased uranium development and enrichment by Uranium Energy Corp’s Wyoming-based operations for the TerraPower Natrium reactor currently being built in Kemmerer, WY.

“I congratulate TerraPower and Uranium Energy Corp on their memorandum of understanding that will strengthen Wyoming’s uranium sector,” said the Congresswoman. “Whether through our robust agriculture sector, legacy energy industries, or the immense promise held within Wyoming’s uranium reserves, our state possesses every ingredient for sustained prosperity.

“I am proud to represent a state that plays a leading role in abundant, affordable, and reliable energy while reducing our dependence on oppressive, dictatorial regimes like Russia, China, and Iran. This MOU holds great promise for our state and demonstrates Wyoming’s primacy in keeping the lights on and utility costs low.”

Wyoming is home to one of the nation’s largest high-quality uranium reserves, providing a readily available source of clean, reliable, abundant energy protected from global supply chain issues and geopolitical uncertainty. This MOU between two leading companies in the nuclear industry will strengthen domestic supply of uranium fuel while creating good, high-paying jobs for Wyoming’s citizens.
