The only way to prevent DoD's weaponization is through increased transparency.
As part of this week's NDAA vote, I proposed an amendment that would increase transparency and oversight of the DoD's counter-extremism working group to ensure that American's aren't unfairly targeted and that our military is being properly protected. This amendment was adopted, and is now officially part of this annual defense authorization bill.
I fail to understand how Democrats can label a bill that seeks to exercise Congress' constitutional duties and provides transparency as something that "sweeps extremism under the rug"; providing transparency and external review does the exact opposite.
They claim that the group is functioning exactly as intended; if that's the case, there should be no concern with letting the facts prove that publicly to all Americans.
